What is Developmental Education?

Wooden Toys

Developmental Educators are allied health professionals that work with people of all ages in a person-centered way to support their goals, help individuals feel empowered, advocate for social inclusion and enhance each person's quality of life. Developmental Educators are recognised within the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and are able to provide services under the NDIS.

At The Tribe, we work collaboratively with children, young people and their families to:

  • break down goals into small, achievable steps and support the goal to be achieved with an individualised intervention plan

  • support children, young people and their families to understand how a disability may be impacting their experiences, with a neuroaffirming lens

  • bring together support teams including medical professionals and allied health staff to ensure the team is working cohesively and collaboratively

  • ensure that each child or young persons physical and mental wellbeing is supported in all environments that they access

  • complete developmental assessments when required to support intervention plans and programs used within Developmental Education sessions, as well as to support funding applications or educational/employment/environmental adjustments

  • advocate for each child, young person or family to access what they need, and support children and young people to develop the skills they need to begin to self-advocate

At The Tribe, Developmental Education services can be face-to-face (in home, education and community settings), telehealth or on a consultation basis.
